Today is the first Sunday in a long time that was mine, all mine. I slept until almost 10 o'clock and had to push myself out of bed. I decided to make my favorite breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes, so I put Adele's album 19 on my Ipod and got to work. Riley laid in bed until 12, it amazes me how much he sleeps. People say that dogs are a lot like their owners and this scares me. Lately it has been a lot like looking into a mirror and I'm not liking the things I see. Another reason to get moving on making some changes, I guess.
Anyway, I settled in with a hot cup of coffee, put The Holiday on TV, and started shopping for coffee tables on my laptop. There are certain movies that inspire and comfort me, and this is one of them. I love the way Kate Winslet's character Iris decorates her little English cottage. It is so cozy and romantic books line the walls, soft slipcovered furniture fills the living room, a claw foot tub in the tiny bathroom, and blazing fireplaces in each room. Something you should know about me is that I love to decorate and could waste many hours shopping and dreaming about my perfect house. I think this might help you understand my need to feel at home here. By the end of the movie, I hadn't fallen in love with any tables and was even more confused about what I want. I had no idea that looking for a table would be almost as difficult as finding a sofa that isn't too big to get up the stairway. This week I finally ordered the sofa I've been admiring for years and it will be delivered on Thursday. Cross your fingers that they get it into my apartment!
After a few hours of relaxing and thoroughly enjoying my Sunday, I glanced over at Ry and noticed he had fallen back to sleep. I decided it was time to wash my face, change out of my pajamas, and get outside. There is a wonderful farmers market in Headhouse Row on Sundays, so I decided to head there. Riley and I walked the four blocks to see that it was closing (it was after all almost 2 o'clock). We walked through anyway looking for the herb lady and to check out any leftover floral bouquets. Almost every person we passed stopped to pet, talk, smile, or compliment Riley, I swear this dog gets so much attention. He knows this and trust me, he eats up the attention.
Once we took a trip up and down the short aisle, we headed away from the market and towards Locust St. There I found a sweet little area called Magnolia Garden. It's a fenced garden that smells and looks wonderful. Riley was so tired and hot that I decided this was a good place to stop and rest for a few minutes. We found a shaded bench and I pulled out my current book. The garden was quiet, only one family sat on the other side of garden. It was neatly designed, reminding me of a garden you might find in England. White iron benches are tucked away in the bushes that line a stone pathway. And in the middle of everything there is a perfectly manicured grassy area, great for picnics, an afternoon nap, or a place to spend a lazy Sunday...
