5. Renovation Projects
My new home has been a challenge but recently I've decided to embrace its quirkes and make it our new home. And now that I'm motivated, I'm realizing how much furniture we've accumulated, since combining our homes! With all these choices, I've been clearing out old designs and bringing in new (or not so new) pieces. I've also enjoyed making list after list of the renovation projects we'd like to start tackling. Now if I could only start crossing them off...
a. unearthing the original hardwood floors (wall to wall carpet = yuck)
b. a makeover for our outdated kitchen (see picture above)
c. new dining room furniture to compliment the new hardwood floors

4. September Birthdays
Thirty one years ago I gave my mom the best birthday present ever - her second daughter! I was born five days after her 32nd birthday (you do the math) and I've always loved having our birthdays so close together. It's just something special that we share, plus our birthdays are in such a beautiful month. But everyone probably feels this way about their birth month!
Growing up, birthdays were always special in our house. On our day we would be awoken to the rest of the family greeting us in bed with gifts. Talk about a great start to the day! One birthday in particular that sticks out is the year I got my first CD player. Woo hoo! And my first CD to go along with it? The Beaches soundtrack. This must have been during my Bette Midler phase. My parents insisted that soundtracks were a better compact disc investment than bands. I do have to admit that I have saved my soundtracks and they are with me every time I move. Always staying in the same box, in whatever basement I'm living in. However, I guess M&D were right because I've managed to continue to save those but got rid of Chris Isaak long ago.
So for this year on my birthday, Hubby-to-be has to work all day, and I mean all day, so he's taking me for an early overnight getaway celebration (more on this to come). But I guess he could still wake me up with gifts....

3. Romantic Lighting
As our evenings grow darker, earlier, we can get creative with how we light up the house. Just the thought of soft lighting welcoming us home is comforting. Here are some images to help you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Light up your front porch
Bring the outside in with twig lights
Fireplace lighting just can't be beat

2. Peplum Tops
So I've loved this style for awhile but only learned the name last weekend from my Mom, the stylish woman that she is. I was eyeing up this top all summer, but resisted the urge. I don't know about you, but I love this style. It's flattering. It's fun. And it's rufflely!

Love the white kitchen at the top - I would call that a dream kitchen. And I just learned the name of those tops too! Just bought one from Franchesca's and love it! Do you have a Facebook button, so I can follow?
