Sister Weekend 2011

Not only was last weekend the hottest three days of the summer, but it was also my sister's annual trip to Philly. Little Sis and I always made a summer trip into NYC to visit Big Sis but since I moved last spring, they now dutifully trek to PA as well. Don't worry, we still do a weekend in each city, NYC is coming at the end of August. Little Sis is now talking about moving to another city, possibly Baltimore or DC, so we might have to add another city to the list next year. Pure craziness.
My sisters arrived hot and sticky on Friday night but nevertheless, ready for fun! We had agreed on a quiet and hopefully delicious dinner at Audrey Claire in Rittenhouse. I've been wanting to take my sisters here for awhile now but it hadn't worked out until this weekend. So we jumped in the car (it was way too hot to walk across town) and drove just west of Rittenhouse Square. Luckily we found a spot just two blocks from the restaurant, unanimously agreeing that we had a good chance of making it to dinner minus a heat stroke. Unfortunately upon arriving at the corner of Spruce and 20th Street, we found ourselves staring at a pitch black restaurant. Apparently they had lost power, which meant the dining experience lacked light, air conditioning, and I would assume, cooked food. Disappointed, we decided to go to Friday, Saturday, Sunday (not disappointing to go to Fri Sat Sun, just disappointing that we missed out on Audrey Claire). Needless to say, we greatly enjoyed the air conditioning and delicious food. We decided to skip dessert after I named the number of choices that awaited us at my apartment.

We walked back the car with full bellies and smiling faces. After digging the car out of a tight space and running over a few curbs, we laughed all the way home. I'm not sure when our nights out stopped including the bars and dancing, but we are all so content with a good meal and bed by midnight. It might have something to do with the fact that the youngest of the three of us, is the most content with an early night. Another twenty five year old might be dragging her old butt sisters out to the club every chance she gets. I guess we lucked out Big Sis.

The next morning we had brunch reservations at Supper. It was another hot day so we took a leisurely walk towards the restaurant. Both of my sisters don't eat meat so I knew they would enjoy this farm to table cuisine. They both made this decision after reading the book Skinny Bitch. Neither had the intention of losing weight, just learning more about the crap we put in our bodies. Big Sis read it and stopped eating meat, then loaned it to Little Sis, who consequently stopped eating meat. As a result I have refused to open this book, even though its tempting to see if I'll be brainwashed as well. But I'd rather not take the chance. Here is a glimpse of our yummy meal.
Crispy apple beignets to start
Sisters got the skillet roasted mushroom toast
I love the sweet stuff so I chose the banana cream pie french toast. I could have used a few more bananas but yummm
Supper to go!
Little Sis had a crazy amount of work to do for her graduate class so Big Sis and I left her in the dust (or in this case, an air conditioned apartment with a fuzzy dog to cuddle with) and we were off to Rittenhouse farmer's market and Anthropologie :) She's always up for a good time! This might be one of my favorite ways to spend an early Saturday afternoon.
This market has such a large variety of goods to choose from, you could do your weekly shopping here. But after just a few minutes we needed to cool down so we saught refuge in Anthro.
Following a little shopping I stopped to buy some flowers at the market and we drove back home. Once there we found Little Sis pacing the apartment, unsure of what to do with her paper. To help her get focused I broke out some wine and cheese so we could relax before dinner.
My sisters surprised me with Middle Sister wine, a new favorite of mine. There's finally something special about being in the middle.
We probably decided on our restaurant choice for that night a year ago, after our first trip to Salt and Pepper. My sisters never stopped talking about it! But since we went last year they've moved their location to Passyunk Square to a more unique old building, which could only improve our dining experience. This is my fourth time at S&P and my second at this location, but I always look forward to a meal here. This time we were seated upstairs, which was incredibly romantic with tapered white candles on every table. Well, they did it again. Marvelous farm to table food, delicious wine, and a quiet, dark room. All that was heard were the sounds of laughing, oohs and aahs over the food, and our waiter serving numerous courses of pure bliss.

It wouldn't be a typical sister weekend if we didn't end it with a little frozen yogurt goodness. We made a special taxi stop on South Street to create our very own flavor combination.
So there we were, strolling amongst drunkards and hustlers, savoring our frozen desserts. Three sisters. Happy. Content. Loving life.
