Happy October! It's officially time to decorate with pumpkins and wear our cozy sweaters! I'd like to tell you that as I write this I'm sitting at my balcony table, wrapped up in a plaid blanket, surrounded by fallen leaves, with a hot cup of apple cider in hand. But I am not. I have been a bit slow picking out my favorite cinderella pumpkins and filling my urn with fall flowers. It's on the agenda for next week, I promise.
Anyway this weekend I welcomed fall into the city by going to the Midtown Village Fall Festival with Bf.
A cover band welcomed us in as we found some white wine (for me) and beer (for him) from
Vintage Wine Bar & Bistro. The festival was full of vendors trying to sell their goods and one in particular caught my eye. They were called
Posh Pouches which were reusable bags of all sizes. Normally this wouldn't be very exciting for me but I've been looking for a cute banking bag for work. So I noticed one that had an Eiffel Tower print and decided to stop back on our way back through to pick it up (for $8!). Then when we came back through about 20 minutes later, it was gone! I guess I wasn't the only one who wanted that bag!
There was a lot going on but one of our favorites were the sumo wrestlers outside of a bar I've mentioned before, Raw (their night club is appropriately called Sumo). Some daring fools dressed up in sumo suits and tried to knock each other down and it was hilarious.
An interesting extra this year was running into the actors from Eastern State Penitentiary
"Terror Behind the Walls". The actors were dressed like they would be in the haunted house and walked around in character (super creepily), handing out coupons. The Penitentiary takes advantage of the history of the building as well as the ghost sitings by creating a haunted house every season. Last year they were voted among the top 10 haunted houses in America. I'm steering clear of this but for those of you who enjoy a little scare, I recommend you check it out. I might partake in their ghost trolley tour throughout the city. It's feels less threatening when I'm listening to a storyteller instead of constantly looking over my shoulder for scary creatures.

This guy definitely wasn't the scariest but as you can see the costume and makeup is pretty convincing
After walking through we headed to Twisted Tail to watch the Phillies game with some of my friends. This has become one of my new favorite bars in Philly. It's in an area of the city where Irish Pubs are a dime a dozen so that was all I was expected from this place too. But I was pleasantly surprised by their eclectic menu and beautiful decorating.

Almost our whole crew for the game

Bf ordered the lamb sliders that looked awesome
It was an exciting game with some ups and downs. I wasn't planning on staying for 4 hours but it was just that much fun - and they were winning!
|
Bf is just happy as a clam

This may have been reenacted for the camera
What are some of the festive things you're doing to celebrate fall?
